 08 August - 26 AugustFun Language Camp For Kids & Teens: Numerous studies have indicated that the benefits of learning foreign languages go far beyond just being able to communicate in another language. Apart from inculcating respect and understanding for different cultures in children studies have repeatedly indicated enhanced cognitive development, creativity, divergent thinking and higher order thinking skills in multilingual children. Here are some interesting research findings about multi-lingual children: - When children are adequately exposed to two or more languages at an early age, they are more flexible and creative (Bamford and Mizokawa, 1991) - Multilingual children reach higher levels of cognitive development at an earlier age than their monolingual peers (Hamayan, 1986) - Children who have studied a foreign language perform better on standardized tests and tests of basic skills in English, math and social studies (Robinson, 1992) By introducing your child to a new language you not only teach him/her to speak differently but also to think differently!  Uno, dos, tres. Adelante. Atras. Vuelta. (One, two, three. Forward. Backwards. Turn around.)Eton Institute was alive with the sounds of salsa music on Sunday night, as we enjoyed a very energetic TESOL Alumni Coffee evening. Beatrice Mynett, one of our TESOL alumni, combined Spanish and salsa dancing in a lively lesson that kept us on our toes. We danced our way around the Buenos Aries room, trying out the rhythm of the music and the words, and realised that salsa is also a great way of keeping fit! Gracias, Beatrice. What better way to undertand the rhythm of a language than to hear it's music first, and we will be holding another Spanish and Salsa evening in the autumn, when our alumni return from their summer travels. (The Spanish phrases also came in very useful for those watching the final of the World Cup later that evening!) TESOL/TEFL/TFL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages / Teaching English as a Foreign Language / Teaching a Foreign Language) are internationally recognized certifications for teaching languages offered at Eton Institute.Registrations open for the next intake with sessions starting this Sunday, 18 July.
